Steph and I came across a unique and beautiful kiosk in the mall a few weeks back and decided it was what we wanted Madelyn’s first year picture to be. What a fantastic day. We literally cleaned the house for 2 days staight because we wanted everything to be just perfect for her 1st birthday. Madelyn had a huge cupcake all her own (courtesy of the bees knees in Medina)..Cupcakes were carrot cake, chocolate tuxedo, and raspberry coconut..Simply fantastic. How time flies

In 2 months, our girl is gonna be a year old. If this is how it is, she's gonna turn 18 in another few weeks. She is standing up now, kind of scooting along the coffee table. Still waiting for her to take her first steps, but I know it won't be long. She is the happiest baby I've ever seen. Always smiling, laughing...She makes me feel awesome everytime I'm around her. Off To Disney World

I'm Packing for Disney World since we're broadcasting all this week for The American Idol Experience. Steph is joining me and it's gonna be the first time since Madelyn was born that we're both gonna be away from her. I am blessed to do what I do and to be able to enjoy this "work" trip, but I'm feeling a bit sad as I take these pics of us packing. Madelyn is 9 months old now. I'm such a wimp! Our family trip to The Finger Lakes

So, Steph and I simply adore The Finger Lakes in New York. So many memories we create there. It was one of our firsts trips together, I proposed to her there, and we just love the scenery and the wineries on all of the lakes. This year was extra special because we got to bring Madelyn with us. She was absolutely perfect. We had so much fun with her. Going and spending time with friends, having great conversation and great food...There is nothing better. Thanks for looking!!

Now I understand why people love to take so many pictures of their kids. They literally change from day to day. We just got Madelyn's pictures taken at the Target in Mayfield Hts. Kind of a long way from Strongsville, but they come highly recommended. They were just great. I recommend going there with a coupon, because we got a TON of pics for like 75 bucks. Without our coupon there would've been a sitting fee and the pics would be 14.99 a sheet. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Ahh, the first's keep coming. We were gonna dress our little lady up like a grape (You know, the Merlot thing??)..LOL But we decided on making her another fruit, the strawberry. She is so precious, and so full of life, and always smiling...She is sick for the first time right now, but still giggling and smiling. Thanks for taking a peak!! Fall is a time to rake leaves, say goodbye to summer, and get those cute fall pictures with your baby girl next to an apple. The girls and I went to an Orchard in Medina and picked apples this past weekend. Madelyn is developing these rosy cheeks because she's teething now and is cuter than a red delicious. Now, it's off to make pie!!!

Ahh, how time flies. Madelyn is getting so big. I'm expecting her to borrow the Accord any day now. Every day, she seems to be doing something new. In the following pics, Madelyn is in her Baby Einstein for the first time, eating for the first time ever with a spoon, wearing big girl outfits,eating her feet for the first time, and beginning her fascination with the spiked grape juice. She has great taste though, it's a Lafond 2005 Syrah from Santa Barbara, one of the wineries featured in the blockbuster movie "Sideways"..I know, I appear somewhat weird. When Madelyn was born, I knew it would be life changing. I wanted to commemorate the event somehow and decided on a tattoo. I wanted something that reflected the passions of my life. My faith, my beautiful daughter, and of course wine (since Madelyn's middle name is merlot). I went to High Street Tattoo in Columbus on Saturday. I told Bret what I wanted and this is what he drew. Man, our little lady is getting so big. She has turned from a newborn into a little person seemingly overnight. She is a very happy kid. She smiles all the time, she giggles. I have been teaching her the alphabet. She knows "a" so she is 1/26th of the way there. A budding prodigy, I think. Thanks for looking at our pictures!!!

Our Nightly Ritual

So, Steph, Madelyn and I have this nightly ritual we go through. We give Madelyn her bath, and about half-way through we wash her hair. Well, as we wash her hair, we give her a comb over. It just makes sense. She has thin hair, I have thin hair...So we have a connection. After she receives her comb over, we have her do a fake newscast since she looks like an anchorman. I know, this sounds really weird. Every night we make her up and then hold her up and make funny jokes. It's a silly thing but it means the world to my family to have this to do. Do you have a funny baby ritual you do every night? I'd love to know what it is. Send me pictures or stories and I'd love to share with everyone. Have a beautiful night!! Our trip to Niagara Falls

So, hangin' with Stephanie and Madelyn this past weekend was so awesome. We were slightly afraid that Madelyn would be bothered by her allergies, but it seems that we found the right formula and she is on the road to healing. She was just perfect. She's smiling now, laughing, and seems like a happy baby. We spent Saturday at the falls, walking around Clifton Hill. Sunday, we went to Niagara on the Lake and did some wine tastings. I got to feed Madelyn in one of the vineyards. We also went to my favorite restaurant, The Rainforest Cafe! It was just an incredible experience and thanks for taking the time to look at our pictures!!

Well, Madelyn has been here about a month, and we couldn't be happier. It is such a life change, it's hard to describe. Steph and I are up every 3 hours, although Steph does the breastfeeding..LOL We see her changing every day and it's just amazing. I couldn't imagine such a little thing bringing so much joy to our lives. We have been snapping pictures like crazy. Hey guys!

So, I'm off for the next 2 weeks. Learning to be a daddy, learning how to change diapers, learning how to be rested on 2 hours of sleep. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Madelyn has taught me what it means to love unconditionally. In between all the hoopla, Steph and I put together a video of Madelyn's first moments....I'm humbled that you wanna check it out, because it means the world to us..I have cried about a dozen times watching this...Then again, I cry when I watch Titanic still. Hey guys!

I am at a loss for words right now. I can't effectively communicate all that I'm feeling. I am in such awe of what Steph and I created, and how beautiful she is and how much we adore her. We arrived at Fairview 5:00 in the morning May 7th and she arrived at 5 in the evening

Some have questioned our choice for a middle name. To us, Merlot is just perfect. It has a lot of meaning for us. Wine is simple, just a grape....But once you get to learn about it, you realize how complex it really is. To some, Madelyn is just a baby, but the more Steph and I learn about her, we realize just how much there is to her. Wine matures and grows. Wine changes every day. Wine brings along a passion to anyone who wants to learn about it...Most importantly, wine brings a lot of joy and love and Madelyn is all that to us and more. We couldn't think of a more fitting name

Seeing a baby being born is a rare thing. Seeing yours is indescribable. Thank you each and every one of you who sent cards, e-mails, texts, messages, prayers, and love.

13 days to go!!!

I can't believe it. In 13 days or less (or more), I'm gonna be a dad. Things have been on fast-forward these last few weeks. Now that all the excitement of the baby shower has passed, we have had to buckle down on a lot of things. Steph is gonna be off for 10 weeks and she doesn't get a paid leave, so we've been trying to save 10 weeks worth of paychecks which is not easy. I got the final touches on the baby room done. Steph has washed all the baby clothes and hung them in Madelyn's closet. They all had to be washed in Dreft! Diapers are all stacked and organized, medical supplies and bottles are all organized in the closet. We've been to a series of classes over the last month. We took a weekend at the end of April to tour Fairview Hospital, look at the baby ward, learn the procedures for check in...We watched many movies about childbirth and all the remarkable positions women can give birth in. It was definately an eyeful. We learned breathing techniques, relaxation positions....12 hours of everything baby. Last Wednesday we took a breastfeeding class. To me you have a boob, you have a baby, bring the 2 together right? Jeez, it's involved. Learning about pumps, latching, positions, storage of the milk. Tomorrow, we take the baby basics class. How to hold the baby, wash her, medical emergencies. This is the one I really need to go to because I don't even know how to hold a baby!

As for Steph, she is just so amazing. She is so uncomfortable, she cant sit long, she can't stand long, but she rarely complains. She looks absolutely beautiful. She's dialated at 2 cm right now and has been having contractions regularly. Her cyatic nerve has been acting up a lot at night, but she seems to be able to sleep lightly during the night which is good. Our bags are packed for the hospital, the house is clean, I just changed the oil in her car. The car seat has been installed. We're just waiting on one thing.

Here are some pics I took of my beautiful wife, Stephanie. We wanted to take some pictures to document our daughter, and to have something to remember. They are not meant to be dirty, they were taken to celebrate life. I hesitate to post them, but I am so proud of her and think she looks amazing, and want others to know that it's a perfectly natural thing to do. We love celebrating our relationship, and this is one more way to do that. Oh, and by the way, these are the ones she gave me permission to post. LOL Enjoy!!

Our Madelyn Shower

Jeez, what an amazing day! Being a guy, I have never been a part of anything like this before. I know showers are something that people just wanna knock out, and it's all about the gifts, but it was much more than that for us. Steph has been wanting to get together with friends and family, and this was the perfect opportunity. We had over 50 people at our house to hang out with, talk to, and eat and drink with. We had pasta with red sauce, penne with chicken and broccoli, a huge salad with pepperoni and mozzarella, tons of fruit and veggie trays, onion dip, raspberry cake from Diane, the lady who made our wedding cake. Brownies, chips and dips, sangria, red and white wine..tons of beer and pop.....It was amazing

Most importantly, we were both overwhelmed at the outpouring of love for us. People sewed, crafted, painted, and bought things for our daughter. It was great to get so many nice things to help in raising our daughter, but most importantly it was great to see people smiling, having a good time, and being a part of a most special day. Madelyn's Completed Room

Hey there!

So, Madelyn's room is finally done. We did a few differen't things in the room. We ordered beautiful bedding from JC Penny's. It seems to have everything going on: Stripes, Polka Dots, Animals...Very colorful and fun. We got the furniture from JC Penny's too. It's all done in a dark cherry wood. The lamp and shade are from Pottery Barn and Steph wanted to hang some fun balls on each side of her crib. We also ordered these circle decals from the internet. You can peel and remove them ....We chose to do an accent wall with them. Paint is from Sherwin Williams...Picture frames are from Pottery Barn...Soon to be baby in crib is from Glenn and Steph...LOL

8 month update!

Wow! We're in our 8th month already. As I do the math, We'll be meeting Madelyn in about 47 days. I can't tell you the feelings of anticipation, nervousness, pride,and love.....It's everything all wrapped up. I can only begin to imagine how being a parent will play out. I'm 35, and up to this point I have had to care for our pets. I protect my wife and my mom, but they are independent people who dont need me to care for them every second of the day. Knowing that you are responsible for shaping a person's thoughts, feelings, and emotions is such a blessed gift.

Steph is doing well. She is growing every day now, but still maintains all her beauty...Inside and out. She is basically all-stomach. Our shower is this Saturday and we are so excited. We are most happy about getting all our family and friends together. Dont get me wrong the gifts are great, but we honestly just want to be surrounded by loved ones. We're having it at the house. We have it catered by Nino's Italian restaurant, and I'm also having a guys lounge upstairs...Guitar Hero, beer and wine...No baby games, just a party with onesies and diapers!

Madelyn's room is done. We got in all the furniture and I'm finished with putting her crib together (that was fun)......I'll be posting some pics soon

Madelyn room update!

Hey guys!

So, here is Madelyn's room as it stands today. In the last few weeks I have prepped the walls and painted them pink and yellow to match her bedding. I layed some Global Passages pergo on the floor and installed all new outlets. Steph sent away for these circles that you can re-position on the wall, so we just put those up. All that's left to do is get in the furniture and hang pictures. Jeez, 8 weeks left. I can't wait!!!!!

7 month update!!!!

Jeez, how time flies. It seems like I just did our 6 month update. Steph is doing well, although once someone makes it into their 7th month, things get extremely uncomfortable. She is done wearing maternity clothes, she seems to be growing every day now, and Madelyn is not only kicking, but moving all around her belly. It is such a cool thing to watch and experience. I am getting more nervous about being a dad. My mom has given me books about childhood emergencies and I have bought books about how to be a good dad. I feel I know what to do, but I wanna be the best I can be, so reading this stuff is very helpful right now. Steph and I spend evenings just talking about how we wanna raise Madelyn, what we think she is gonna look like, how we think she is gonna act....This is my most precious time with my wife. I love this part of the day. We spent the weekend registering for our baby registry. It took 6 hours total. Yes, that's a lot of store time. We buy cute outfits when we see them, we bought the paint to do the room. We are going with pink and yellow to match the bedding we got. Our moms graciously bought us Madelyn's bedroom set, and now that we have that and I bought the wood floor, I just have to put everything together. A couple of questions have come up that I could use some advice on. Let me know if you have experienced this, or have any advice...

1. Steph keeps replaying in her mind the part in "Jersey Girl" where Jennifer Lopez is about to give birth and she finds out she has an aneurysm and dies. I tell her it's just a movie, but she gets worried about the pushing part of labor

2. We are looking for daycare right now, but everyone wants to do full-time. With my schedule, I can get done around 12 or 12:30, so I'd like to find a place that could watch Madelyn from 8-12 or so. Anybody know of any place??

3. We are contemplating getting a pregnancy picture of Steph. Kinda like Demi Moore above. I know it may seem weird to people, but we kind of wanna document everything to be able to show our daughter. Has anyone gotten this done? Do you know a good place to go??

Hope you're all well. Madelyn is doing well, she says hi. Actually, she's just kicking up a storm. She is very active and makes me wonder if she wants out. I think being in a womb cocoon sounds comfortable, but maybe it's too small in there..LOL

Steph, however is dealing with some pinching of her cyatic nerve. I guess pressure from the baby is being put on a nerve in her leg and causing these massive shooting pains. Has anyone experienced this? She is using a heating pad, but the pain remains. Any help to make my wife feel better would be appreciated!!

The Transformation Begins!

Big weekend in the Anderson household. Steph picked out a crib, furniture, bedding, and more for Madelyn. It was my job to start transforming the baby room. I will post pictures of my progress. I bought new hardwood flooring and just got done ripping up the carpet and putting KILZ on the walls. Gotta protect Madelyn from Mold, you know? I got the walls spackled. I just have to buy paint, install the floor, decorate, you know..nothing too big :)

Starting our 6th Month!

So, right around May 19th or so, Steph and I will give birth to little Madelyn. We are pretty pumped up, but have also been experiencing some things that we are looking for some help with. If you have the answers to any of the questions below, feel free to post a comment. We read all the comments, suggestions, and opinions. I appreciate it and so does my wife

Steph has been really uncomfortable with back pain. Every time we are sitting, she can't seem to get comfortable. Any tips?

Steph hasn't had any cravings either. Is this normal? When do they kick in? What are your cravings?

And probably the most important one....Steph severly dislikes being pregnant. We both hear how moms love being pregnant....How it feels so great knowing you have a living person inside you. Will these negative feelings change anytime soon? We both are very blessed being given the opportunity to be parents, but she's having trouble with this part of the journey. Do the happy feelings come after the baby is born? Is there anything I can do to make things better for her? Have you experienced this???

What should Madelyn's room look like???

So, everyone has an idea about what a baby room should look like. Some people like themes, other people characters. For us, we don't really know what Madelyn's likes and dislikes will be. It's difficult going the Disney route, maybe she won't be into Disney. We can't go down the Wiggles route or even Diego....We are going back and forth on a cool look for the room. OK, I am officially getting into having a baby. I have always wanted to be a dad. I feel I have a lot of love to give, and I have the greatest wife so I figured now was time! Seeing my daughter for the first time is very humbling. She is beautiful. I can't wait to show her all life has to offer. Seeing her spine form, her vital organs, where her eyes are gonna be. Seeing her move and wave and make a fist is proof there is a god and he is good :) Here is her first official photo shoot.
